Massachusetts Bar Association honors Sherin and Lodgen for pro bono work

The Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) presented Sherin and Lodgen with a Pro Bono Award For Law Firms during its sold-out Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 9th. The MBA’s Access to Justice awards honor six attorneys and one law firm for their exemplary legal skills and service to the community. Firm partners Jessica G. Kelly, Douglas M. Henry, Sara J. Shanahan, Sander A. Rikleen, Bethany A. Bartlett, and Thomas F. Maffei, and associates Daniel C. Johnston, David A. Michel, and Barbara T. O’Toole attended the dinner.

The MBA acknowledged Jessica G. Kelly, who chairs Sherin and Lodgen’s pro bono practice and played an integral role in the firm’s first pro bono case, which began in 2009, when a Ugandan man, who was persecuted for his political activism, sought refuge in the United States. Jessica helped the man win permanent residency and eventual citizenship. Sherin and Lodgen has since donated more than 800 volunteer hours to fellow clients of the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project.

“Besides its pro bono service to immigrants, Sherin and Lodgen has provided more than 20 years of life-saving legal assistance to an Alabama death-row inmate and frequently submitted amicus briefs to expand anti-discrimination protections in the workplace,” the MBA wrote.
