Edward S. Cheng published in GPSolo magazine on the key ethics issues to consider in your succession planning
Edward S. Cheng, partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, was published in the January/February 2023 issue of GPSolo magazine. The theme of the January/February 2023 issue is “Ethics.” His article, “Succession Planning and Ethics Issues,” discusses the key ethics issues to consider in your succession planning. Some of the topics the article covers are how to ethically leave your firm, what obligations you owe to your current firm, how to disclose the departure to your clients, ethical considerations for selling or merging your firm with another, and what to do if a lawyer at the new firm takes your clients. The article highlights the Golden Rule of succession planning, which is that you must treat your clients fairly.
GPSolo magazine is published six times a year by the American Bar Association‘s Solo, Small Firm, and General Practice Division.
