Partner Gary M. Markoff Serves as a 2024-2025 ABA National Appellate Advocacy Regional Competition Judge
Partner Gary M. Markoff served as a judge for the 2024-2025 American Bar Association (ABA) National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC) on February 28. Gary judged the second round of the Boston regional competition at the Edward W. Brooke Courthouse, where law students from across the country exercised oral advocacy skills in a moot court setting on the Fourth Amendment.
Gary is the former managing partner of Sherin and Lodgen, and a current member of the firm’s Corporate and Real Estate Departments. He works with clients primarily on business, corporate and real estate transactions and bank financings, representing all types of lenders, borrowers and investors. In addition, he has many years of experience representing companies in mergers and acquisitions and recapitalization, as well as advising on other corporate issues, including governance issues, stockholder and employment agreements, non-competition agreements, trade secrets and intellectual property rights. The ABA Law Student Division National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC) is a moot court competition that emphasizes the development of oral advocacy skills through a realistic appellate advocacy experience. Moot court competitors participate in a hypothetical appeal to the United States Supreme Court. The competition involves writing a brief as either respondent or petitioner and then arguing the case in front of the mock court.
