Edward S. Cheng and Mariem Marquetti Present “Generative AI in the Law” to MA Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association

Partner Edward S. Cheng and associate Mariem Marquetti presented, “Generative AI in the Law: To Use or Not To Use Or, To Use But With Extreme Caution Lessons From The ABA,” to the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA). The webinar took place on November 4 and covered the following topics:

• What is AI?
• The ABA Formal Opinion 512 released July 29, 2024
• Benefits and risks of using AI in the law
• The importance of staying informed with AI developments in the law as emphasized by the ABA Formal Opinion 512

Ed is a partner in the Litigation Department and co-chair of its Professional Liability and Construction Law Practice Groups. He has over two decades of litigation experience, specializing in complex commercial disputes, professional malpractice cases, insurance coverage disputes, and real estate litigation. Ed represents attorneys and their law firms, corporations, architects, engineers, title insurance companies, and professional liability insurance companies. He has also litigated employment, construction disputes, trade secret, and non-competition agreement disputes.

Mariem is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department. Her practice focuses primarily on civil litigation, representing clients in complex employment matters, commercial disputes, real estate litigation, and professional liability matters before state and federal courts, as well as before state agencies such as the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.

NELA is a professional organization for lawyers who represent workers and employees in employment matters with offices in San Francisco, C.A., and Washington, D.C. In addition to being a professional organizations for employment attorneys, NELA also advocates for public policy, such as strengthening worker’s rights, prohibiting discrimination and protecting benefits. The organization also files amicus curiae briefs in important litigation.
