Jennifer Ioli Connelly and Richard Heller Present on ALI CLE Webinar, “Drafting and Negotiating Restaurant Leases”

Partner Jennifer Ioli Connelly and Richard Heller, Of Counsel, presented on the American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) webinar, “Drafting and Negotiating Restaurant Leases: Selecting Wisely from the Menu of Options,” on November 22. Jen and Rick discussed the practical concerns that play a significant role when negotiating a restaurant lease, both from the landlord and tenant’s perspectives, and covered topics such as:

• What landlords and tenants need to be aware of in standard (and not-so-standard) provisions
• Key issues concerning permitted use clauses
• Operational aspects of a restaurant that impact provisions in a restaurant lease
• Restaurant operations issues (odors, grease traps and the like)
• Best practices for addressing alterations

Jen is a commercial real estate attorney with experience in acquisitions, development, leasing, and financing. In particular, she represents retailers, developers, and institutions on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions. A partner in the firm’s Renewable Energy Practice Group, she advises institutional investors, industrial companies, and other types of commercial property owners on solar leasing matters for rooftop, ground mounted, and canopy facilities.

Rick advises clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions. With over 40 years of experience, he advises corporations and businesses on a broad range of business and legal matters. He is also a member of the firm’s Hospitality Practice Group, representing hospitality clients on a wide array of projects. Additionally, he is a Principal at Pineapple Hospitality Consulting Group LLC and formerly served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Legal Sea Foods.
