Senior Counsel Thomas F. Maffei named “Lawyer of the Year” in Arbitration Law by Best Lawyers® 2024

Sherin and Lodgen announces that Senior Counsel Thomas F. Maffei was named a “Lawyer of the Year” for his work in Arbitration Law by The Best Lawyers® in America. The “Lawyer of the Year” designation recognizes individual lawyers who have received the highest overall peer-feedback for a specific practice area and geographic region. According to Best Lawyers, only one lawyer is recognized for each specialty and location, making this accolade particularly significant. Tom was also listed in the 30th edition of Best Lawyers for his exemplary work in Commercial Litigation, Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law; Legal Malpractice Law – Defendants; Product Liability Litigation – Defendants; and Professional Malpractice Law – Defendants. In addition to Tom, 23 other Sherin and Lodgen attorneys were selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers, with two being named to the “Ones to Watch” category.

A Senior Counsel in the firm’s Litigation Department and a skilled mediator, Tom has extensive experience in civil litigation, including legal malpractice cases, bar disciplinary matters, business litigation cases and insurance defense and coverage matters. In addition to his active mediation practice, Tom often acts as an arbitrator, court-appointed discovery master.  He has also served as an expert witness on legal ethics and civil litigation issues.

Tom has taught Professional Responsibility at Boston College Law School for many years. He has also lectured and written extensively on a variety of legal topics concerning litigation, trial practice, professional ethics and lawyer discipline issues. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial lawyers, a Panel Member for the American Arbitration Association and is listed in the Top 100 New England Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America.
