Sherin and Lodgen’s Pride affinity group hosts “Camping for a Cause” to benefit LGBTQ+ youth
Sherin and Lodgen hosted a “Camping for a Cause” event on June 12 in support of Camp Lightbulb, an organization that celebrates LGBTQ+ youth, aged 14 to 18, with positive summer camp experiences. The event was organized and hosted by the firm’s S&L Pride affinity group, which is co-chaired by Sherin Associate Daniel S. Guenther, Legal Assistant Louis P. Feltman, and IT & Operations Specialist Karisa D. Gardiner.
At the event, programming included a presentation from Camp Lightbulb staff, campers, and parents, followed by a history of Pride documentary screening. As part of the initiative, S&L Pride is raising money across the firm to sponsor two youth scholarships for campers who would otherwise be unable to attend Camp Lightbulb. Sherin and Lodgen will match the contributions made by attorneys and staff at the firm throughout the month of June.
Associate Daniel S. Guenther said, “Camp Lightbulb offers a unique opportunity for LGBTQ youth. Nearly 30% of campers at Camp Lightbulb depend on financial aid so we’re thrilled to help support campers who would otherwise not be able to attend this fantastic opportunity to make lifelong memories.”
As part of Sherin and Lodgen’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, the firm established a Pride Affinity Group focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer inclusion efforts. The group, which is comprised of LGBTQ+ attorneys, staff, and allies, is focused on internal educational events, social programs, and community outreach.
Camp Lightbulb is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and a proud member of the American Camp Association and the Massachusetts Camping Association, operating in LA, NYC, and Provincetown. Camp Lightbulb started with nine campers in 2011 and has since welcomed more than 400, with 150 attending this year alone. Campers range in age from 14 to 18, identify across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, and come from across the United States and Europe.
